FLORENCE, Ky., October 27, 2023 – Spotlighting two of its most recently introduced machine series, Mazak will feature models from the Ez Series and the SYNCREX Series in booth 1531 at WESTEC 2023. All of the machines in both series are built at the company’s manufacturing campus in Florence, Kentucky. The Ez Series of Vertical and Horizontal Turning Machines provides job shops reliable, maximum machine-tool performance at a lower capital investment, while the SYNCREX Series further expands Mazak’s machine tool technology portfolio into the Swiss-style machine market.

Targeting key West Coast industries that include aerospace, semiconductor and electronics, Mazak will demonstrate the VC-Ez 26, VC-Ez 16X and QT-Ez 8MSY models from the Ez Series. With a rugged 40-taper spindle, MAZATROL SmoothEz control and full range of auto tool changer and chip/coolant management options, the VC-Ez 26 meets many production needs with enhanced operator ergonomics and a generous work area to ease the loading and unloading of workpieces and tools. An extremely fast traverse rate of 1,417 ipm (36 m/min) in the X, Y and Z axes enables higher throughput. A 25 hp (18.64 kW) 12,000 rpm (standard) or versatile 29.5 hp (22 kW) 15,000 rpm (optional) spindle offers 81.13 ft-lb (110 Nm) of torque for additional production versatility.

Equipped with Mazak’s MAZATROL SmoothEz5 CNC, the VC-Ez 16X processes small complex parts via 3+2 or full 5-axis machining. The machine combines a rugged spindle and space-saving design with a full range of options to meet many production needs. Its 5-axis rotary/tilt trunnion table with roller gear cam technology further increases part-production capabilities with 360° of C-axis rotation and -110° to +40° of B-axis tilting capacity.

The VC-Ez 16X provides axis travels of 27.6” in X, 16.14” in Y and 16.14” in Z (762 mm x 410 mm x 510 mm), which allow the machine to accommodate maximum workpiece diameters of 18.11” x 19.09” tall and weights up to 507 lbs (230 kg). All VC-Ez models feature a powerful 40-taper, 12,000 rpm, 25 hp (18.5 kW) spindle and 30-tool magazine and are automation ready.

Mazak’s QT-Ez 8MSY features an 8" chuck, milling and Y-axis off-centerline capabilities paired with a second turning spindle for Done In One® Multi-Tasking functionality. The turning machine uses a larger A2-6 spindle nose with 5,000 rpm, 15 kW (20 hp) and 123 ft-lbs (167 Nm) of torque as well as a 2" (50.8 mm) bar capacity. Its standard 6,000 rpm milling spindle provides 7.5 hp (5.5 kW) and 25.8 ft-lbs (38.6 Nm) of torque.

For further increases in productivity and automated unattended operations, the machine seamlessly integrates with bar feeders and robots. Mazak offers an optional 6" chuck for greater maximum rpm capability, and machine turrets include 2-axis drum style with a bolt-on or a BMT55 turret for rotary tool applications.

For Swiss-style turning at its best, Mazak will have the SYNCREX 25/8 and SYNCREX 38/9X machines up and running real-world parts at WESTEC. With a maximum bar diameter of 1” (25mm), the SYNCREX 25/8 powers through high-speed production of small, precise parts in an eight-axis configuration that includes five spindle motors and standard 10,000 rpm main and sub spindles.

The SYNCREX 38/9X handles bar stock up to 1.5" (38 mm) and provides full 5-axis contouring using its B-axis tool post. Shops can run full bar capacity with no special bar end preparation, and a removable guide bushing adapter enables operators to preset the guide bushing outside the machine. The machine’s 10 hp (7.5 kW) main and second spindles reach 8,000 rpm, and its rapid traverse rates measure 1,378 ipm (35,000 mm/min) on the X1, X2, Y1, Y2, Z1 and Z2 axes.

Like all models in the series, the SYNCREX 25/8 and SYNCREX 38/9X are sliding headstock machines constructed on the Mazak High Damping Composite Casting (HDCC). This unique high rigidity base provides greater vibration damping characteristics, less thermal growth and greater part surface capabilities when compared to a cast iron base machine. The SYNCREX 25/8 comes equipped with Mazak’s MAZATROL SmoothSt CNC, and the SYNCREX 38/9X sports the MAZATROL SmoothSt 5 control.

For more Mazak machine action, WESTEC visitors can also see the INTEGREX i-100ST Multi-Tasking Machine in the MasterCam booth 1401. The machine ensures the highest level of single-setup part-production versatility of a high-powered turning center and full-function machining center combined. Its configuration features a second turning spindle (S) for DONE IN ONE® machining and a lower turret (T) with optional rotary tool capabilities, minimizing fixtures, tools, handling and non-cut time.
