Quick Q&A with Kent Nakahara
What is your background involving laser machines and the fabrication industry?
"I was first introduced to laser technology and the fabrication industry when I joined Mazak. But as I have spent more time with Mazak, I found that laser technology and the fabrication industry is related to my life very closely. It is still new to me, and I have been enjoying my life with laser technology to discover something new all the time. One of the things that surprised me the most was camping equipment, which I love to do in my free time. It was interesting to know that my equipment was produced using laser technology."
What is your current role at Mazak?
“I am a liaison from Japan, our HQ and our factory. I mainly manage our purchasing from our factory and importing related issues. I also assist Japan with getting feedback from our customers in the North American market. This enables them to develop new technology or new options based on our market’s needs.”
What is your definition of great customer service?
"I believe that great customer service is to offer value to our customers and exceed their expectations. If I could accomplish these two things, I believe it leads to customer satisfaction."
What are your hobbies and interests?
"My hobby is camping, cooking, golfing etc. I always love to spend time with friends camping on the weekends. I love cooking outside, feeling the nature, sleeping outside, etc. I miss my camping life in Japan as I have left most of my stuff in Japan. Now, I enjoy cooking and golfing here in the United States."
What inspires you?
"I have been inspired to live and work in the United States. It is a totally different culture from Japan. My life is filled with challenges everywhere, and it gives me many things I might not be able to learn in Japan. I do not think the difference is about which is good or bad, but it teaches me to respect different cultures."
